the spit's maiden voyage

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward,
for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” ― Leonardo da Vinci

Mark and Michael went this morning to Davao's
Crocodile Park,
where there's a small airstrip for R/C planes.

There Michael launched his hand-made Spitfire

and savored the taste of success as it soared to the clouds.

“Flying might not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price.”
― Amelia Earhart

"Never have so many owed so much to so few".
Winston Churchill 1940

Churchill's tribute to the Royal Air Force for fending off the German Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain June-August, 1940. Germany wanted to gain air superiority over Great Britain in preparation for an invasion. The RAF succeeded. There was no invasion. The primary weapon of the RAF was the Spitfire fighter plane - a beautiful, historically significant airplane with engines made by Rolls Royce and a carburetor that would not ice up and which could function upside down.
